A West Midlands Travel 1993 Adventure

Lloyd, Dave Griffiths knows of it's whereabouts as he has been been promised first refusal on it when up for disposal so from your information it would appear to be withdrawn but still retained. Will contact him to find out operator, which did tell me but I can't recall. Thanks for the links...

A West Midlands Travel 1993 Adventure

A quick walk around to the other side of the tram circle found D.P.Prague Ikarus bendybus 4014 thundering past but parked up nearby was our first close up encounter with the only other type of motor bus to be seen in normal service anywhere during our stay in Czech let alone Prague - the Karosa...

Too late chaps, my official retirement with traditional tow in was back in 2005 (see#1). It's not possible to have two tow ins and I broke my service by not taking the part time work as a continuation of full time work so would not be eligble now in any case. When I can remember where I put...

    Birmingham Steam Buses 1824-1910.

In the other thread that brought us this spin off, we established a Midlands link for Gurneys steam coaches by virtue of Mr Dance and his Gloucester - Cheltenham route. At the risk of staying with Gurney and Dance at this stage in this thread I have managed to find another strong Midlands link...

Never thought of that, Thylacine, but the staff did whisper a lot:D. It was a short walk from the hotel to the outer terminus of tram routes 22 and 26 and what a treat the terminus was. Below street level and hidden by a wall, it was quite a surprise to look over the wall. Both views here are...

    Birmingham Steam Buses 1824-1910.

Oh for the wisdom to understand but a word of this thread but I still love it. So anyway, in 1831 Sir Charles Dance started his 4 times a day Gloucester - Cheltenham service with this improved version of the famous Gurney Royal Patent coach used on the Bath - London service. Presumebly the...

    Birmingham Steam Buses 1824-1910.

Rupert, It was the SS Great Britain that was abandoned in the Falklands, and now returned to Bristol (towed on a pontoon) where a fantastic restoration has taken place in the original dry dock where she was built. Well worth a visit.

Our deadline for the planned meet up on the Motorway services after Pilsen was easily met (David and friend arrived late shortly after) and so it was follow the red car to Prague. Wrong Thylacine, as a West Country bloke I ave to tell ee tiz Isambard Kingdom Brunel in the stovepipe topper. Well known and cherished for many marvels down Bristol way amongst others. He of course designed the Great Eastern but sadly it defeated him but that's another story. Mike

Did anyone chance to be among the photographers attending the 'Running Day' at the Aston Manor Museum of Transport today and photographed BCT Standard 3225 on the 1415 (2-15pm) Outer Circle 11 working from Aston to the Swan, Yardley, returning at 1445 (2-45pm) from Yardley. I ask because I was...

    Refuse Collecting Vehicles

Re: Refuge Collecting Vehicles A pal of mine drove an SD dustcart for the Birmingham Refuse Dept that the back end tipped up vertically to move the waste to the front of the lorry. He was working the Stratford Road at Springhill when he upended the back and fetched down a load of telephone...

You are right there Thylacine, the 118 was still in Midland Red hands until 3/12/1973. Operated by Sheepcote Street garage( with odd peak workings by Digbeth Garage during the 1960's).

Thanks John, there are quite a few photos to come and then I could go on to bore everyone to tears with the 3247 1995 trip and even another one organised by Birmingham Central Garage who relied on the YW gang to get them there and back via the Channel Tunnel in an Optare 'decker after the...

    Bull Ring now Bullring

As an outsider, I was always told the name of the Bull Ring came for it being a market area where in years gone by bulls were bought and sold and during sales were tethered to a ring on a post or wall whereas a Bullring was a place where bullfights took place in Spain, Mexico and the like. Carl...
