    ERDINGTON BRANCH ASW

I had at first thought, might the SW refer to Six Ways (Erdington)? The only names linked with Birmingham or Aston (in the case of the 2nd & 3rd named) for the the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers since it was formed (after the amalgamation of The Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners...

Beatles at Odeon 64 and 65

A great thread. I have seen Paul and Ringo in Brum, but how I wish, I had been able to go to one of those two shows. Pictures below are: 1 - A ticket for the 1964 show, 2 - The Fab 4 in Brum 11/10/64, 3 - Watching themselves on TV, before their 1965 Odeon concert, 4 - Fans queueing at the Odeon...

    Pubs Of The Past

Two former City Centre pubs, the 21 victims and the 182 that were injured, are I'm sure in all of our thoughts today:

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

Received this decent "Black Friday" warning from First Direct today, that might be worth sharing: Remember – if it seems too good to be true, it probably is Before you do anything else, Take 5. Stop, think, and don’t get pressured into anything. If you’re unsure about an offer, confirm it’s...

Corporation Street on 8th December1990, was it really safer in the road, than on the pavement?

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

The problem is nothing seems to happen to anyone, other than to the victims. It would be nice if a bit more importance could be placed on these scams by those responsible for them occasionally being brought to justice. The chances of that happening to those operating from the UK seem to be slim...

    Smiths Crisps Tyseley

    The crisps with the blue bag and the first crisps that I ever tasted. We used to sell them at my Dad's shop and they came packed in tins (picture 1, 2 = a 1920s advert, 3 = a WW2 packet, 4 = 1960's advert, 5 = 1930's serving suggestions, 6 = 1930's advert & 7 = Pattie Boyd's 60's advert):

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

Yes, they made savings by not having to employ someone to sit in a car park kiosk or to travel to their car parks to empty the money out of their ticket machines. Sacking them may have slightly increased the money they make, but it didn't add to customer service and it added to the ranks of the...

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

Another parking scam was highlighted on Central News last night. Drivers are being warned of a scam featuring fake QR codes stuck on pay and display ticket machines in local car parks. Apparently the machines are claimed to be out of order and drivers are asked to pay by scanning the QR code...

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

The wording of this scam is bad enough and you are 100% correct the wording is a real give away, but the last line says it all. Whoever wrote this and sent it out, really is the lowest of the low, their parents would be so proud....

lad in the lane fire last night

Jack's great-great grandfather, Billy Garrity was recorded as the licenced victualler at Ye Olde Green Man the 1911 census. He was a footballer himself, playing for Villa from 1897 to 1908 and scoring 96 goals. He was Man of the Match in Villa's 1905 FA Cup Final win and played for England...

    Birmingham City Hospital officially closes

Seems a pity that they weren't able to close it and then do the necessary repairs, in order to be able to provide extra hospital places, and start to reduce the ever growing NHS waiting lists.
