    Erdington postmen heroes remembered

It looks like Brian W Dodds married a Mary Page in 1954 and in 1955 were living at 33 Summerlee Road, Erdington. Can't see any obvious children from them.

    Erdington postmen heroes remembered

Picking on the one name. A E Sharp (+age) this would appear to be identical with [1911] Albert Edward Sharp b.1877 of 44 Gravelly Lane, Erdington, Window Cleaner. Did the Post Office employ their own Window Cleaners? I presume they may have done back in those days. He had 5 daughters and a son...

    Erdington postmen heroes remembered

Nice find. If all else fails then I'm sure the National Arboretum could find a place to display it. Is there any way of finding out the identity of the original building from whence it came? Woodcock Street. Weren't there swimming baths there? I may have even gone there once or twice.

    St Phillips Birmingham Look Ups

Additionally, on Ancestry, I've also found that they now have the Electoral Registers for Birmingham. Seemingly, they were 'optically' scanned, therefore there are loads of errors, particularly relating to addresses. However, it has enabled me to develop information regarding close relatives...

    dykmoke st/stanhope st..highgate

On the subject of Dymoke Street, can someone with the necessary access have a look at the 1901 Census. RG13, Piece 2856, Folio 72, Page 26. And confirm the address of the Ferkins family - It's their name, HONEST! Bottom of the page. It looks like 1 Haighton Terrace. And Phil. I'm going to...

    KESTERTON, Frederick

And the 1891 entry, transcribed as Kesleston, is at RG12, Piece 2433, Folio 55, Page 15, which also shows the names of the grand parents.

    KESTERTON, Frederick

I'm not so sure about the 1911 entry showing his age as 24. If you look carefully at the other entries then certain of them have a definite 2 whereas the others could be a '3'. Certainly no suitable Births 1887 (ish) except one in Paddington. 1881 Census, RG11, Piece 3047, Folio 70, Page 11...

    Bordesley Green Grammar Technical School

I actually got on quite well with him. I remember one occasion where another 'yoof' had bent a piece of personal jewellery, a chain of some sort, and was 'going to get grief' when he got home. It was lunchtime and despite his protestations, I took him in to see 'Killer', who quickly set to with...

    Free B.M.D site

Not sure if this will help, https://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/ it was posted as a 'work in progress' in 2011, but I'm not sure how far it has progressed. I did once see a detailed explanation as to how to identify a particular Church from a GRO reference, but can't currently locate it.

    Attention trainspotters! (Men only)

Not quite Saltley but, as a kid, there were a number of us who used to frequent the Signal Box at Bromford Bridge Station. IIRC it was a platform mounted box and, as I can't remember any passenger services and looking at the https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/misc/stations.htm site, and seeing...

    Benjamin Gregory, Boat builder

Should have thought about this earlier but, Brit Gen has a forum dedicated to Canals and Watermen. https://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/196-Canals-and-Watermen Perhaps worth a post there?

You could try searching newspapers of the time. Not only for advertisements of Boat Builders but also for the purchase/sale/lease of land and moorings.

    OXFORD ARMS, Greenway ST.

Nope. Not the same. It must have been a different part of the 70's.

    OXFORD ARMS, Greenway ST.

I used to use it about that time also. Was the Gaffer's name Collins? Or am I thinking of someone else? Being on the corner with Coventry Road, could it not have been 'numbered' as Coventry Road?

    Tricky Ancestors

I think it may be worth looking at 1871:- RG10, Piece 3212, Folio 71, Page 2. William Kings 46 Jane Kings 43 Abel Kings 19 John Kings 16 Eliza Kings 9 Harriet Kings 7 Ellen Kings 5 Emma Kings 2 Eva Kings 5 Weeks I know there is an age difference but, do females always tell...
