    In the Royal Navy, soft drinks are known as Goffers and they are perchased from the Goffer Bar. To my knowledge this word has been in use for many years, going back before we had cans of soft drinks. I have often wondered what the origin of this word was. Perhaps there is a conection?

    I've Just looked at the pics again (It's been years since I last looked at them) and I also became confused. However I think I've solved the problem. I've looked through my books and it seems that "Forth" although launched as a Mersey Class Cruiser was converted to a Submarine Tender in 1912...

    Yes this is the one your relative served on but it is a "Mersey Class Cruiser" not a submarine depot ship.
