    Thanks...just had a look and filled in form and all it did wa go to the normal search pages...no mention of any war records. Tried it on multiple peoples names.

    Yes thats the one about all different boxers......will have to find time to read it all again,to see if any Phelan's are mentioned as I have found out that a story about a boxer in the family could refer to a George Phelan...I have messaged someone on Ancestry about him and await a reply.

    Just looked on google maps to try and see where the reservoir would have been and whats there now. Cant locate it but the canal looks a long way away bearing in mind it was built as a feeder....lol.

    This is a Memorial for him from the Commision and the grave details and number match the grave in my picture.

    My Wifes Great uncle died in Selly Oak Hospital in 1944 and is in a CWGC grave at Yardley......in amongst " ordinary" graves. I think they visit them now and then making sure they are presentable. We had put a message on the grave and it was gone next time we visited and since then I have read...

    Not quite Duddeston Mill Road but travelled on the train to Hamstead yesterday and the view of Duddestons station trackside is awful.....neglected and overgrown........and just up the line the mega HS2 spending billions.

    Thanks Carole for finding that out. She must have had a very hard life....after marrying in 37 she and Frederick had 2 children during the war when he was away.In 1941 both children died within days of each other. I think Violet had family in Shirley place so hopefully she was helped a lot...

    It isnt the 2 step verification rubbish is it ?....I dont log off so dont have to do it everytime but if I go on my wifes she gets a code and then I get one when I go back to my account....

    Birmingham boxers

    Great thread....just read the lot...Phew. Interested as the Wife's Mother used to say about an Uncle who was a Boxer but I havent been able to find anything about one. She was born in 1923 and family names were Butcher and Bayley - all around Ladywood and Digbeth/Balsall Heath/Small Heath.
