Demolition of the Co-Op, High Street

A few more. The crane that collapsed was swinging a wrecking ball, by the way. Doyle was the contractor involved. Steve.

Demolition of the Co-Op, High Street

When the Co-Op in High Street was demolished, I was able to take some pictures from the roof of the building next door. It was strange to see landmarks previously hidden from view, gradually appear as the old building came down. The quality of my pictures is poor, I'm afraid. The...

    Home made traditional food

Not to be downbeat about my Bakebad tart, I opted to try and make every Brummie kid's favourite. Chocolate Concrete. I loved this when having school dinners. I do not remember anyone not liking it. My first attempt. Just out of the oven, and sliced whilst hot. I remember it as being set...

    Home made traditional food

You would not like to make them like this, Pete. They are headed for the bin. The pastry was not cooked on the bottom. The recipe did not call for blind baking beforehand, and I think that it should have. Regards, Steve.

Bakewell out of the oven. I had some pastry left over, so made some wee cherry Bakewell tarts, with cherry jam. The tray version has Raspberry jam, of course. Steve.

Treacle tart was always a wee bit too sweet for me, but the egg custard is a winner. I have Bakewell Tart in the oven. :) Steve.

    Early Woolworths shops in Birmingham

There was one at Northfield. I remember it having bare, wood planked floors. I used to go there with my mom, who would buy a big bag of broken biscuits, which were sold off cheaply. Steve.

    Soaring Food Prices

The Boss is not overly fond of smoked food, so I rarely have any now. I do buy some when I get the chance, especially Game. I have dry cured Venison in the past, which was a great success. As I was typing the above, my neighbour called in with these for me. Always welcome. Steve.
