Oh dear, sorry to hear that, takes away some great old buildings and essence of Birmingham and the canals. Same as here in London now, tall buildings going up everywhere and dwarfing the old city.

Just thinking about him, despite all his mad cap antics and outward acts, he was a humble person underneath not big headed like some entertainers. He was always genuinely touched by fans appreciation of him.

Oh my goodness, I didn't expect that so soon :confused: so very glad he was able to finish with a great concert - just what he would have wanted I guess. RIP Ozzy, top Brummie, you won't be forgotten!

I'm not sure, I got the photo from the Midlands Memories FB page without a date, however I would guess 60s or 70s. I used to pass it on the bus route I took to work in Town, I think it was an Indian Restaurant afterwards.

This was the Surfside Stop, it was on the ground floor of the same building in Constitution Hill where the Penthouse was located upstairs...

I would guess the night was put on by/as the Bent Boot. I don't remember seeing that one though. I do remember some nights being advertised as Gotham City, probably because the TV Batman series of the 60s was so popular! Edit..well, maybe because the side of the Crown and Cushion was in...

My friend and I also went to that Led Zeppelin concert at the Town Hall in June 1969. We had seen them previously earlier in that year, not very long after they had formed, at Mothers in Erdington.

I've met a few well known people through retail work but those in passing... Cleo Laine and her husband Johnny Dankworth I saw browsing in the Bargain Bookshop in New Street, near the Odeon. I think they were on at Ronnie Scott's that night. Another Roy Wood one - he and his then girlfriend...
