    Linotype operator

I always thought that Linotype machine were fascinating and incredible inventions/developments back in the day. Watching Stokkies video I became very upset :) because I used to live about 30 miles, straight shot super highway for the museum in Bethlehem PA an$ did not even know it was there...

    Bartons Arms closes

Just rereading this thread. Stokkie post got my attention: one of the things I have done in my career is “turn arounds” or rescue failing manufacturing companies. In all thee cases the accountants wanted to wind them up. The first was done 25 years ago, all three are alive and well. If wasn’t...

    Kingstanding

Just made me think about growing up in Aston at my Nannas(sorry Kingstanding). There were 11 or 12 of us. Three tiny bedrooms upstairs no running water or heat. Bathroom was outside. Nanna kept the stove going all of the time, for tea! But we all [just about] survived! Thanks for the memories!

And today (at least here) solid brass would be a premium of course with a no tarnish coating! I paid a fortune at one of our houses to put real brass kick plates and handles on our front door. Of course there was a double door!

    Italians in Birmingham

Many Italian families that emigrated like my wife’s parents/grad parents, aunts and uncles all lived in the same neighborhood. In this case NYC. It was a support thing with a common language and common foods etc. the “neighborhoods” built a support system for the new residents. I am sure that...

Chain migration also applies to family members (usually not varifird) who are allowed into a country without that country’s certification.

    Italians in Birmingham

Just like my wife’s grandmother who was born in Italy, always wore black except for our wedding! I remember dancing with her and she reminded me ( my wife was the middle child) that I had taken her out of order. The protocol in Italian families was always the eldest child was married first. I...

    Lawson’s Motor Wheel.

It is surprising that very few picked up on that concept! Maybe just a little before it’s time….
