    Birmingham Irish

    Lots of Irish in my mother's family from way back, they were Coughlins from Cork, some to Birmingham some to Liverpool and Swansea. The first Birmingham address I find is in Deritend.

    Back when I was working in Brum we had a customer who was struggling to explain to his insurers how his car had got kicked by a cow in central Birmingham. :) it had broken away on the way to market.

    The other buildings on the map alongside the H&H would include Ryan's newsagents I think, it was a very old building with an archway at the side where old Ryan used to hang his pigs over buckets to bleed out after slaughter.

    My memory tells me the 29 went to Kingstanding Circle the 29A to Pheasey Estate and the 33 to Finchley Road, the 28 to Hawthorn Road via Perry Common. I see on your picture the numbers are not level, I wonder if the pic was taken while the driver was setting it.

    Back in the late sixties when I bought my shop dad made two of these for me to display fruit and veg outside, when I sold the shop I used them for tools in my workshop. Now I'm finished with all that I tarted them up and intend to use them for pot plant displays but I'm no gardener so advice...

    Profit is of course what is left over after ALL the business outgoings are met, High salaries for the directors come into those outgoings so nothing to stop the directors paying themselves millions before profit is calculated.

    My first digital camera would eat batteries in just a week or two, I bought a set of Energiser Lithium batteries to replace them, took the camera round the world did a lot of photos then used it at home for a year before they died.

    My three children were all born there, my wife spent time at both Heathfield and Trinity Roads.
