    HI Michaeir I just had to reply to your post as I used to go there for my eyes. I still remember so well the test the rabbit with the bunch of flowers and you had to move them. i guess it was some sort of exercise for you eyes.

    I am trying to find the birth of Mary Burr Bowen born about 1821 in Birmingham I have found her siblings all christened at St Martins on IGI but am unable to find a Mary. She is on the census forms. Father should Be Jonas Bowen and Mother Esther Prime. Thanking you.

    Ray, Guilbert53 and Polly thanks for your replies I must say the area is really changed from the days when I used to go to the hospital as a child.But then the whole of Birmingham is so different to how I remember it.

    A little question I was looking on a map of Birmingham and the children s hospital looks to be on the site of the General Hospital. Where was the other children s hospital I think we used to catch a bus that went up Broad Street. Could some one answer this for please.

    Sunday School.

    I used to go to Sunday school at the medical mission Lea Village. I still have a little bible that I got for excellent attendance in 1952.We used to get test cards each week and had to learn the little verse written on them.

    On a 1849 marriage certificate I have the males occupation as colourer then on his sons marriage certificate he is a painter. Could it be like a painter and decorator

    Food Office Orange Juice

    If I remember rightly you had to go to the baby welfare to get the orange juice along with the dried milk for the baby. I can remember going under the bridge on Crossfield Road to the welfare when I was little.
