    Handsworth Cemetery

Hmm, brain now in gear, I think I have managed to work out what to do.

    Handsworth Cemetery

Well I have had a good look - and for some reason I have plans of all cemeteries except Handsworth - I don't know where it is at all. it is on a disk, but I have hundreds of those, that would take me a long time to find. So - I emailed Handsworth (I know them well) and I got a plan back...

    Young john

Ring Bromly Register office and ask the question - they cannot give you information outright, but if you ask 'was he a retired carpenter?' (or whatever) or offer his wife's name, they are allowed to give you that information. They are only allowed to say 'yes' or 'no'. Worth trying I would...

    City Centre Photographs

The Collonade was a fabulous building, shame that one had to go, too.

    City Centre Photographs

The map I have in front of me, Phil, shows the Collonade as running the whole length of Ethel Street - (the map of Birmingham 1902-11). Although Ethel Street is a hill, the hotel runs the wrong way in the photo, it should run down the hill, not across. I also think that the horse (I think it's...

Richie you took the words right out of my mouth! I have been pondering this whilst washing up. I am sure I know the man, too, but my brain won't work at the moment.

    Items that have faded away

Barretts Sherbert Fountains. They were wonderful!!! When I was pregnant the first time I had a craving for these for a few weeks. They were scary if you breathed in, but you soon learned not to do that.

    sayings

Humiliation was the order of the day I think, Nico. I got into trouble once, domestic stuff, but mother had to tell the headmistress (although I shall never know why), and it was announced all over the school by the maths teacher and the headmistress. We could wear anything blue and white, any...

    Grosvenor Street West

I think this is one for Mike, if he would be so kind. I would like to know just where on the map 111 Grosvenor Street West was. Apparently the house was large, and in the cellar there were some brick-built structures that my aunt thinks might be to do with the fact that it could have been a...

    Occupations in Birmingham, UK 1841-1861

I think you will find that 'Made in England' only happened after 1896, prior to that you got just 'England' and that was after 1891. This is the rule for porcelain, I suspect it may be for all things.

Reading Alfred Wilmot ...Electoral Roll look up please

Mike - I find there are two Aubrey Roads, would the one you meant be Small Heath or Quinton? Somehow I expect the latter of the two.

Reading Alfred Wilmot ...Electoral Roll look up please

Well, thank you Bewdley and thank you Ladylinda - I had no expectation of this, I was merely wondering who they were, but thank you very much, I appreciate this greatly.

No apology needed Mike, easily done! Thank you for looking again - I wonder who Muriel Robertson was, now that's a mystery. Shortie

Reading Alfred Wilmot ...Electoral Roll look up please

Than you Mike. I wonder if the Jane I found was not his wife? She was the right age, dying in 1960. This does help although it's posed many more questions, as usual! Many thanks Shortie

Reading Alfred Wilmot ...Electoral Roll look up please

In 1911, Alfred Wilmot Reading and his wife Jane were living in Tennant Street. I would be interested to know where he was living around the 1950's or late 1940's please. He died in 1970, his wife in 1960. It is possible that his sister in law Lizzie was living with them also. Thanks Shortie

    Rod Birch

If this site would not have existed without him, it is particularly sad, and more so becasue of his comparative youth. Rest in peace Rod.
