    Birchfield Road Perry Barr

I would say it is, yes. The first picture shows my old junior school Birchfield Road in the background. I believe the tram terminal was by the row of shops just past where the railway line goes underneath, the second photo shows the same pub on the right, The Crown and Cushion (the small...

    Aston Barracks

Are you certain it's Highbury? I remember the old ground (flats now) and the new ground is very near but that doesn't look like the surrounding area, there is a railway line which runs very close to both grounds. I could be wrong though, it's difficult with photos from the air to tell which...

    Round the Wrekin

Regarding the saying - I have also been reminded of hearing singer Robert Plant use it on a Radio One interview back in the 90s Made me smile then as many listeners would have wondered what he meant

    Round the Wrekin

I only know the phrase as meaning to take a long way round to get somewhere. I hadn't heard it can also mean to take too long to explain something. I still say it even though I live in London and most people don't know what I mean! A former colleague who originally came from Shropshire said...

Jay Blades : The Midlands Through Time

@Alberta is it Jay Blades you are referring to? I haven't seen the programme but I can tell you that he is from Hackney in London which would be why he pronounces Birmingham like that - something quite a few Londoners do ......and yes, it's annoying!

Read the story earlier today - amazing! What are the chances of something like that happening?! I was also very impressed that someone of that age had worked out how to use a 3D printer :D

    Birmingham Ships' Lens Company

This thread reminded me of a visit to the Lizard lighthouse in Cornwall many years ago. I remember the member of staff who was telling us about it said something about the light and Birmingham. I have just checked on Wiki and see that the optics were made by Chances - you may already know this...
