    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

I always work on the basis that the sun is always below the yard arm somewhere. Maybe 14C here, but good enough to fire-up the BBQ. The wind is backing round to the SE, so we will see some fine weather over the next few days. Steve.

    HOUSEHOLD GADGETS FROM THE PAST

We hardly ever use our kettle. Once a day, to boil a small amount of water to go into the dogs food. Neither of us drink tea., only coffee, and that from a machine.. Steve.

    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

I have just come in from doing a bit of dead-heading. There is a feeling of Autumn in the air. We have a strong NW wind this morning, dropping the temperature down to a wind chill 7 deg. No watering required. We had very heavy rain last night. No wind, but the rain was bouncing off the ground...

We do not get many over this side, compared to the West coast, which was unbearable at times. Generally speaking, the wet weather will bring them out in droves, but they tend to tail off come September. Steve.

    No birds in my garden....

No shortage of Sparrows up here. We have plenty of Starlings, but little else. ONE Blue Tit, so far this year. No Blackbirds, Robins, Wagtails, etc. Just outside of the village, once in open country, there are fair numbers of Skylarks, Yellowhammers, Rooks. Seabird numbers are well down...

    A Wee Album

Following on from my recent post https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/wartime-christmas-greetings.56600/ This also surfaced. A small photograph album, dating, I would guess, to WW2 when my father was in North Africa. It is made from a silk-like material, and hand...

She would have been thinking, " come on, you old git, let's get moving. We've only climbed just over 2000ft." Steve.

That's Loch Eil, just West of Fort William. We lived "Out West" for seventeen years, then headed East, to our current location. We has no real issues with being incomers, probably because we both worked locally, and mixed well. Made lifelong friends there. Steve.

    The Crooked House at Himley

I am only going by what I read in The Express  https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1799240/historic-pub-destroyed-fire-black-country Not known for its fact based journalism, but the article states that it was listed in 1960. "It was made structurally safe in the 1940s and has been a...

I had 3/4 acre at my last place, and swore that I would never have grass again, unless I had something to eat it. :D My place is just visible, over the dogs' left shoulder. Steve.

    The Crooked House at Himley

I understand that this is a listed building. Does that mean it has to be rebuilt? A bit more than a whiff of smoke about this, IMO. Steve.

It's a postage stamp, Pete, so does not take a lot of looking after. Steve.

    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

My Mahonia is suffering from rust. I dug it up in June, potted it, and moved it to an open position. All to no avail. It has been treated with a fungicide, but it seems a loosing battle. Not only that, but something is munching on my Hydrangea. Everything else is doing quite well...

    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

When we lived over on the West coast, I had two Buddleia in the garden. I cut branches off them, stuck them into the ground, and, more often than not, they grew. Ended up with too many Buddleia. This morning we have strong NW winds, making the temperature feel 8 deg. o_O, although...
