its not in villa st i grew up there and the houses had not started to be boarded up in 67

The Laurel Place, Villa Street is recorded way back in 1854.

Crossed my mind too Mort, especially as there's a 'Danger' sign on the corrugated covered doorway. Suggests these houses were, perhaps, close to demolition. Or maybe they were given considerable renovation after all, and in the process of which the keystones might have been removed ?

There's a watermark for the source of the photo, does anyone recognise the site ? It might give more detailed info.

my photo and this one of laurel place in lozells st are not the same...the entry in my photo is in the middle of the houses to the right and left..

If you look at the advert it says Stotherts Chest and Lung mixture. This does not seem to be mentioned in much of the Birmingham press.

The sign is from the Victorian era which made me think perhaps one of the houses used to be a shop. From 1900 to 1932 (at least) No. 55 Ingleby street was a shop. This does not prove that it is Ingleby Street but perhaps other Hockley streets had a shop in front of Laurel Place

hi pedro that is what the caption says...hockley 1967 but lets not forget that locations are not always correct...the only thing i am certain of is that its not villa st hockley so at the min it remains a mystery

The advert is very likely to be R Stothert & Sons, North Road, Atherton (Manchester). Wholesale Chemists. They appear only a few times in the Birmingham press (Glempec cough mixture), but many times in the press up north.

Seems strange an advert on a wall should appear so far from Home ?
