Warstone Lane Cemetery

I have a little bit of a family mystery and I'm hoping that there will be more info on the gravestone if there is one as the death certificate is odd. Definitely the right person - but there is some odd information.

Hi Lyly, I have searched the burial records on jQRT.org and she is buried in section P grave 1427. I have looked at the section plan also on this free website, and the grave is right against the wall in section P. The two lines of graves from the wall along section P were unmarked graves used for public burials, and there are no gravestones in that area I'm afraid, but the website does list Esther's name as Esther E D Hudson if that helps you.1427.JPG

Although there will be no gravestone the 'Friends of Warstone Lane and Key Hill cemeteries' are doing an open day in the cemetery on Saturday, and they might be able to help you find where the grave is.

I popped out to Warstone cemetery yesterday and managed to take 1,073 photos of the catacombs to assemble into a 3D model of the site. It gives a new prospective on the catacombs, I always thought of them as crescent shaped, but the model shows its an asymmetrical horseshoe.

You can see on the right-hand side some of the ‘guinea graves lying flat.

In the centre you can see the entrance to the tunnel that led to the Chapple.

If you use your mouse you can move around and zoom in and out, enjoy.

Thank you to everyone for your information on this site. I have been able to find out from burial records that my late husband's twin brothers who were stillborn in 1956 are buried in public grave J 2. I have seen a photo of the stone on this site and plan to visit the cemetery later this year.

so pleased for you as so many of us are still searching for the burials of still borns..i am still searching for one from 1935 but the trouble is so many still borns were buried in a grave with someone else and their names not recorded making it impossible to find them

Have you tried searching the burial records online? This is how I found out where my late husband's twin brothers are. If you find them you can access the records for a fee of £10.

yes tried everything been searching for over 10 years...like i said lots of still borns were just buried with anyone else that was buried on the same day...no records exist for so many..its just the way it was back in those early days..in this case the baby was just taken away and the parents told she was buried somewhere in key hill...
