This makes sense, so yes his dad felice lived at that address, if you search it today it comes up lozells road rather than high street, I could see it was a shop, and on the death certificate his job was an ice cream vendorjust a last bit of info for tonight and you most likely know this but the 1935 telephone directory gives giovanni iommi at 81 high street and its listed as a cafe..no doubt also selling ice creams

That makes perfect sense actuallyI woud suspect "niece" was an easy option for a more complicated relationship.
You know - wife of second cousin once removed - that sort of thing is a mouthful. So much easier to say "niece".
I have a relative who I call my cousin and she refers to me in the same way but it was actually my Dad and her Mom who were cousins.
hi suzanne i have just phoned up perry barr crem to ask if they have felice and giuseppe with them...spoke to a lovely lady who said for those years she will need to check their archives and she will get back to me...thought it was worth a shot as you never know.. at best they are there if not we can at least cross perry barr off the list..will let you know when i hear from her
Wow that’s amazing so that’s where felice ran his shop I will keep this for my records if that’s ok..hi suzanne yes as said on post 9 the library wont have the catholic burials st chads is the way forward but as already said they can be very long winded in replying...however unless you have already got this here is a map showing no 81 high st which as you know is where the cafe was and also a photo of the cafe which i would date to the 1950s/60s..photo is courtesy of kieron at west midlands pubs..

yes I just sent another Email to confirm I didn't mean buried at st chads cathedral, ill wait for a reply, they're only there Thursdays and Fridays. my last resort is to get a historian on the jobI think they have misunderstood. They are referring to burials at St Chad's itself. Also the site for Birmingham cemeteries which we have already searched
The archives hold a lot of parish records (including burials). The problem is they won't search for you (or wouldn't when I last went several years ago,). They don't have staff only an Archivist but you used to be able to book to go in and search. Trouble is when I went the records were on microfilm per parish. so you have to go through to find the year and month - very time consuming.
I will see if I can find the situation now.
At least they are getting Oscott checked
I am only guessing that as they were from Italy, im assuming they were CatholicsAre we definitely looking for a Catholic burial?

wow thankyouuuu, that would be my grandad Anthony and his brother Albert. I didn't know this info, how did you find this out.. so you think to visit the and just have a look around, I will make a list of them all and do thisGiuseppe & Maria's 2 eldest children were baptised as Catholics at St Michael's, Moor St, which is still there.
You could visit the closest Catholic churches and take a walk around the graveyard if they have one.

Not many Catholic churches had burial grounds so you need to check. The cemeteries listed on the Birmingham burial records have Catholic sections but are multi denominational.
Some of the "St ones" (as you put it) may have graveyards but are not Catholic. A lot of their records are on Ancestry and I drew a blan
Ok I understand that, ill wait to see what comes back from st chads , yes those from post 14 I jotted those downLyn and I have checked the online records for Council run cemeteries (like Witton, Handsworth etc). These contain a section where Catholics could be buried. Lyn posted the names of the Iommi's that came up in post 14.
That list does not include any churchyard burials.
Church burials are recorded by the church - some Catholic ones are on FMP (but we think these stop before the dates you want) and a lot of Birmingham C of E are on Ancestry.
To see the dates you want for Catholic churches you would need to search at St Chad's - the records exist but are not online
I appreciate all of you looking for meI should have added that MWS has also checked sites
