OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I am hoping someone may have seen this picture before and can add some light to it - my information is as follows
" Horse and cart outside the United Club off Summer Lane", quite clearly this is a rather loose description , Horse drawn hearse with 7(?) coaches behind - so presumable someone important? , Love the Navy Cut advert and the two children watching.

this has been talked about before steve...the belief is its the funeral of someone important to the area..

Last one for tonight is White Swan Cecil Street and Hanley Street - this image was taken in 1958, nice tidy street, leaded windows , shallow roof line. Quite a gap between the pub and the house- large yard for someone / something. and the house look quite wide too.

If I remember correctly that area next to the White Swan was used as a car park for the managers at Turner Brothers.
 
Tonight we start with The Vine, Summer Lane , taken in July 1961, interesting layout from the left we have big window, door(?) leaded window, another door then a passage. First floor has two bay windows, and what looks like a large lamp on the front. To the left we have the Co Operative Confectionary Service, and to the rear of that someone sitting on a chair. To the right of the pub is a large building with a large window to the street, Wills sign high up on the wall and a sign that says Bristol in the window

out of all the pubs on summer lane only the vine had the postal address of summer lane..all the rest were on corners with addresses off summer lane

Next is St. Matthias Tavern, on the corner of Great Russell Street and Bridge Street West, taken in July 1960, a warm day judging by all the sash windows open, long stretch of Terraces with a pub on the corner, much the norm in those days. Like the little van and the pair of steps in front of the pub too.

Taken in 1968 this is the Royal George on the corner of Summer Lane and William Street, verry ornamental with the leaded windows, stone outline to all the windows on the first floor and the fancy work under the eaves, follwoing round to the right it seems to finish very suddenly- did it use to continue? Love the two cars and a van also.

Next we have another hearse picture, two lovely horses , fine glass sided hearse and a very smart gentleman driving outside the Equitable Money Society, but no year and no location either
EDIT Astoness and Pedrocut provided - part of the same funeral service seen on post 291...its going past the Unity Club and you can just see the Bulls Head pub on the corner of New Summer Street we can just see the word club above the door

never seen that one before steve but it has to be part of the same funeral service seen on post 291...its going past the unity club and you can just see the bulls head pub on the corner of new summer st we can just see the word club above the door...this is only from memory

Next we have Birmingham House Summer Lane / Farm Street, black and white paint work against a rather plain upstairs. Like how the left hand side has Mitchells & Butlers spread across all three panels , however on the right its crammed in Mitchells&Butlers style !! Like the old style traffic light as well

and lastly on this roll and apologies for the quality of the image - battle between lifting the light on the left and losing everything on the right
this is The Three Horseshoes, Summer Lane and Cowper Street, taken in August 1961, A few roadworks going on, remember the large red and white barriers, fine selection of cars and I cannot work out what the two people are doing.

I spent many a good hour or two in here both in hours and after and before time , at the time I used this pub John and Tina McGoughran had taken it over frrom the previous gaffer a woman by the name of Aggie . Tina by the way was the sister of Pat Brennan who used to own The old Crown in Digbeth one pub in his vast portfolio of premises .
 
Sorry there are a flow of pubs at the moment , this one is The Cross Guns and is the corner of Summer Lane and Frankfort Street,
standard pub with the door on the corner , and the large lamp over the door. Looking at the right hand side of the pub, there is the sloping roof over a narrow building, which seems to have a flat roof extension, a gap then another narrow building with a pitched roof next to another large building. In the other direction there are a few hoardings with a van onthe road.

Help needed with the next one, all I have is " Old Library?" , the sign on the right says St. Georges Church Parish Club Rooms,, does that help? Makes it seem to be more likely to be a Church, number of notice boards, a bell tower, lots of leaded windows, and a pointed entrance with an inscription over it.

Back to the pub , this is the Rose and Crown on the corner of Hospital Street and Brearley Street, love the window shapes on this building , on the ground floor the wide arched leaded windows then from the left we have a small round window, then on the first floor we have 3 small windows with brickwork between them then two small windows then a very small square window with a larger window, going around the corner we then have a larger window and 2 small windows. To the right of the pub we have the rear of two unusual cars and the remains of a building with a fireplace half way up the wall.

Well I need your help again , this time we have a church - and thats all I have, looking from the rear so we cannot see the name board, winter - no leaves on the trees and a few people walking towards us in the grounds, curved vestry on the rear corner and a number I high arched windows. Suggestions?

EDIT: From Pedrocut, All Saints Church, Winson Green.

its not st georges church steve...if you look above the door i think it says st georges church but as the notice suggests i think it is st georges church club rooms which i guess would have been close to the church..question is where was it situated

steve i thought i recognised the building from trips down dudley road....amazingly its still there. and so are the properties to the left of it..below todays st view
