I know this would be a very hard thing to do but would anyone have any ideas as to where my Mother in law would be standing please.....some writing on " hoarding" at end of road and theres a spire thing behind her ( coming out of head). We have no idea of her age in this but she was born in 1923.
Thanks.

Could the wording be (Machi)netools &... with some of the writing missing ? The ampersand doesn't have anything after it either. Looks like hoardings or temporary fencing. Behind the fence, it looks like building work in progress.

The 'pole' looks like a tram pole.

So, a wild guess, somewhere on a main road where a machine tool factory is located, possibly built in the 1930s/1940s.

The dress looks about late 1930s/1940s.

thanks everyone........we came upon this photo yesterday. Its my wifes Mom and all she ever told her was that she helped out doing Charing with her Gran and Aunt...She is on the 1939 register with them in Quinton and they did pubs etc locally but also at Bulpits in Town.....the aunt died in 1940 aged 19 at a Coventry hospital but no idea how she got there. We dont know where she lived -apart from at Quinton in 1939 - from birth to 1953 when she married in Stirchley. WE was hoping this picture could place her somewhere. Theres no censuses in all that time and shes too young to be on a voting register up to about 1944ish......her name was Ivy may Bayley.
Thanks

keith can you confirm it was ivy may bayley b 1923 in your photo...what was her married name

lyn

in 1950 there was an ivy m bayley at 5/32 mosely road and in 1945 there was an ivy m bayley living at 430 kingsbury road...

Oh blimey thats interesting. How would I go about finding information like that ?

just edited my last post keith she was at moseley road in 1950 not 1945 as i put..

from ancestry electoral rolls..we cant be sure its your ivy but considering she didnt marry until 53 it could be her..both times she is sharing with others..

lyn

The other names might be significant Lyn.
Haven't looked yet as laptop not on.

the other names living at 430 kingsbury road are...arthur ghest..norman hall..lucy yardley

and at 5/32 mosely road the others living there are sarah oakley and frank baker

I have Premium membership on Ancestry but no idea if I could access electoral roles....or how too.

No names that I have seen/heard that are to do with her......probably all lodgers........she says shes living at Laurel Road in Cotteridge on her Marriage Cert.

the are are 3 ivy m pooles on the 1955 electoral rolls..one of them is address franklin road kings norton which i would say is near to cotteridge living with edwin t poole..was that who ivy married

well if i have this correct ivy would not have been standing outside no 430 kingsbury road as that is still there..st view below the white house..

i guess she could have been standing outside no 32 moseley road but of course they have all gone now and we dont know where else she may have lived as not all the electoral rolls are online so it could remain one of those unsolved mysteries as we cant even be certain the kingsbury road and moseley road addresses are where our ivy lived

Could be this view then, looking across Bradford Street, there's a light on a very high pole (as in the B&W photo), a low level building ahead (now car parts dealer), the Moseley Arms is behind this view on the right. There are a few houses next to the Moseley Arms, but they're not the ones Ivy is alongside as they look like new builds, next to these is empty space, which I assume were where the houses Ivy is standing next to, and closer to Bradford Street.

viv i looked at that st view last night and wondered...what we need is a map showing where no 32 moseley road was

O.M.G. you have all been busy......in the photo she was Ivy May Bayley and name changed in 53 to Poole....
IF she was with her grandmother and Aunts/Uncles they lived in 1/66 Cheapside but cant say precisely when they left until they turn up at Firsby Rd in Quinton in 1939.

An aerial view from 1937. In 1955 No. 34 was a coffee house. I think there are some tramlines visible on the original photograph so the location would fit but could do with a comparable image.

This one's from the Bradford Street thread. Shows the (now) car parts building on the left, Moseley Road turning is to the right. Tram poles all along Bradford Street, one is in the right position to feature above Ivy's head on the B&W photo.

To me the car parts building looks like it was built in the 1930s as a workshop/factory. Windows on earlier Streetview's are typical 1930s. So if the building was under construction in the B&W photo, it could date the photo to the 1930s.

looking at the st view viv and the map i dont think ivy is standing outside of no 32 moseley road.if she was we would not be able to see that big pole which i would think is more modern anyway...just a guess though.. also ivy does not have to be standing outside no 32 she could be standing anywhere so its all guess work at the min..

I would say - unlikely to be 1930s. Lady in photo born 1923 so 1940s is a better estimate.
