Royal Exchange Lichfield Road Aston

Simon68

master brummie
Evening everyone,

I have this token for the Royal Exchange, Lichfield Road, Aston, where according to Directories a Mr David Cornish was landlord in 1891/1892.

Believe the pub was located on the corner of Park Road/Lane at Aston Cross (Sixways?).

I am a “non-Brummie” so please accept my apologies if my location references aren’t quite spot on, but they are what I have managed to Google research so far.

The token is available to purchase if anyone wants it.

Regards

Simon “The Token Man” in Suffolk.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for the update and reply ….The Royal Exchange sounds right and a great pic, I seem to remember that Boots the Chemist was a few shops down on the LHS ….a corner shop ?
Does anyone have memories of Miller Lighting which I think was on the Lichfield Road heading into Town and what was the name of the cinema just further along from the Golden Cross pub ….by the end of the 60s it had been taken over showing Indian films ( Bollywood, but before the term came into existence )
All of us will remember Thompson the park butcher and pigs being delivered for slaughter….often escaping to run along the Lichfield Road……and the beer being discharged into the gutters when Ansells had a strike

Anyone remember Jonnie Prescott the boxer from William Henry Street….bottom end of Rocky Lane, now Tarroni scrap
metal yard ?
