Wow, Top grade from me. Beats a boring lawn every time. Hope I don't offend anyone by that remark I'm sorry if I did

    Abbey Road

Thanks for your info. MWS. I was questioning who lived at No. 46 not 42. I lived at No 42 and Edward D Johnson was my elder Brother. The man I spoke of was the son at No.46 and I am trying to recall their names

Air Raid Precautions (ARP) records WW2

I had forgotten all about this. There was a house almost opposite us in Abbey Road with a P painted on the wall

    Abbey Road

Watching the VJ commemoration service yesterday raised a query in my mind. I lived at No.42 Abbey Road Erdington during the war. At No 46 there was a family whose son was in the navy. He was captured and spent a long time in the Japanese camps. Amazingly his mother used to receive letters from...

    IN OUR GARDENS 2025

We had a bird in the garden this morning which we had not seen before and so far have not been able to identify. With poor eyesight I am not able to see everything about it It was about the size of a sparrow, it's back was a pale blue with a brownish front. It didn;t stay long so could not see...

    Twister Twisterer Warp Twister

My wife worked at a woollen mill in Yorkshire. She says that after she had taken the full reels of wool off her machine they were taken downstairs to the Twisters who then rewound it to the necessary thickness ]ply] needed.

The end - 60 years ago

We had two sisters next door and they took us regularly to the Lickeys. We used to love going to the front on the trams that had an open front. I was just wondering what the top speed of the trams were. Looking back It was certainly dangerous. Health and safety would have a field day.

    Nostalgia

What memories have been stirred. Would be good if every modern day child was to see this. Perhaps make them more thankful for what they have

    The car

Reminds me of the Renault van that was given me many years ago when my car gave up. Used it for a long time travelling around Yorkshire Moors with no problems at all

    The car

Bought my first Automatic in 1972 and never changed since. Only ever had one go wrong and that wasn't major. Been driving since 1956 and sadly just given up. So glad I taught my wife to drive. Wonder how many miles I had done.

    IN OUR GARDENS 2025

Our garden is very similar to yours Trebor. Got rid of the lawn years ago as I didn't want the hassle of cutting lawns as I got older. I will have to try and take a decent photo and the find out how to post it. My problem is age and the shakes. Like you we have a number of Hostas several coming...

    Radio

Years ago in Walsall hospital the presenter used to go round the wards and asked for favourites they would play that night.
