For me it was either walking to the WOB :D in Weoley Castle where I lived in the 1950's or getting the 22 bus to Selly 'Oak' cinema and walking back afterwards, someone used to walk along the waiting line handing us a picture card

Fantastic photo's, I've said it before but these photo's show a lost world where you could walk around and find local shops for everything you wanted, a cafe a short walk from anywhere. Lots of interesting family owned shops, antiques and junk shops everywhere and now gone for ever and sadly we...

And me, they used to put out containers on the pavement of low priced weird switches and other strange bits of electrical gear which I used to buy occasionally thinking ,this might come in handy. :D :D

The photo suggests quite an early date using a timed lens cap as it shows everyone blurred because they moved, but the building is more focused, there is even a ghost image of a figure in the road

Well yes but the Horse had no load to pull so little effort required there so the Horse could enjoy the view along with his handler :D

Strange to call a pub the Anchor so far from the sea but the B,ham assay marks on silver etc is an Anchor, apparently the result of tossing a coin with Sheffield according to Googling it

That's interesting, seems to be rates for the dwellings which had all gone long before 1961 when I worked there

I feel sure these boat Horses had a far better life than those hauling coal and other supplies round the smoke polluted city streets. After the first hard pull the boats would follow with little effort, and of course no hills to climb other than a slight upgrade at a lock

Here is the photo made brighter, looks like an abandoned area awaiting demolition, rubbish in the gutters everywhere, looks like a corner shop with 2 people down the end. Typical Victorian era with lots of small paned windows for workshops, entrance must be round the corner

I was about to add that we were sent from Weoley Castles schools for swimming lessons there, I remember the shop you mention with broken Smiths crisps and also broken biscuits as well :cool:
