Very interesting Jan. I think that you are right about the cottages and barn being sold much earlier

I don't think so as Graham's memoirs tell us that his father installed, electricity, running water and sewerage after purchasing Old Barn

I'll have another look but i don't think so he was only about twelve when he moved into Old Barn, after working for a while he went into the army and became a Tankie. He followed his parents out to NZ in 1947 after marrying my aunt

Yes just domestic and a small holding. Another thing that I am lucky enough to have is a book written by Frank's son Graham entitled ' The Life and Times of Graham Armstrong' Below is a quote from Graham:

Hi! Viv This may help to clear your baffles: Frank was in a senior position with Dunlop at the time that he purchased the Old Barn. In the mid 1940's Dunlop were setting up a tyre manufacturing plant near Christchurch New Zealand. Maybe an offer too good to refuse Frank went out to New Zealand...

I'll dig my files out shortly but I think that may tie in with when the family emigrated to New Zealand

Could this be what Mr Terry purchased and then sold off the cottages

Hi! Janice I think it quite likely that he purchased a neighbouring farm but he only wanted the land and not the buildings

I have wondered whether the two cottages that Frank Armstrong knocked into one were Wiggins Hill Cottages but the entry in the 1939 register suggests not. I think that I will be havng a holiday in the archives next time I'm across in the Uk
