    Mary Street, Balsall Heath. 1896

    Between 1892 and 1895 the house numbering changed from sequential to odd on one sde and even on the other. Coach and horses was #149 before the change and #162 after. At that time Upper Mary Street was changed to Mary Street.

    The sign is from the Victorian era which made me think perhaps one of the houses used to be a shop. From 1900 to 1932 (at least) No. 55 Ingleby street was a shop. This does not prove that it is Ingleby Street but perhaps other Hockley streets had a shop in front of Laurel Place

    I don't think that photo is in the right part of Barr Street. I have attached an aerial view form 1948 and marked the approx. position of #177. In 1955 there was a coffee room next door at #175.

    Certainly looks as though the original building is still there on the corner, although extensively refurbished (chimneys removed, new roof etc.).
