Have you seen this record of Alexandra's RC Confirmation at St. Chad's in 1906 from FindMyPast? She then married in a CofE church.

John, your mention of Watcyn Thomas prompted me to share the attached photo of his retirement (Birmingham Mail 21 July 1971) and some news cuttings. He was capped for Wales 14 times, spent 34 years teaching at Aston until his retirement in 1971. He died in 1977 shortly after the publication of...

Its all very confusing, but I think Eleuterio's wife Eleanora died in 1905Q1 at the age of 19. Eleuterio then fathered a child, Carmen Iommi, with Rosae Iommi (nee Ceroni) in Dec 1906 although I have not found a record for a second marriage.

It appears that Eleuterio had another son also named Carmen in Dec 1906 with his new wife Rosae Ceroni. Note that in the attached baptismal record, one of the maternal godparents is Angela Quadrini. The priest's note in the margin 'domi in penculo mortis' translates as 'at home in the shadow of...

    Iommi family

I think we can place Eleuterio Iommi firmly in the family with the attached records from St Michael's Catholic Church in Moor Street. A baptism on 24 March 1904 of Carmine Musticone (b. 16 March 1904) gives the parents as Luigi Masticone and his wife Maria (nee Iommi). The godparents were named...

After Musolini declared war on Britain in June 1940, thousands of Italians were classified as 'enemy aliens' and interned. This happened to Giuseppe Iommi b.1882 (the artist's model) and his cousin Nicola Iommi b.1887 (also artist's model, ice cream vendor and labourer). Giuseppe was released in...

In this news cutting from September 1902, Felice Iommi gives his address as 3 back of 21 Fox Street. I can't find him or any mention of his address in the 1901 census. However, his alleged assailant, an ice cream maker, was there at 2 back of 22 Fox Street.

Hi Suzanneiom, just checking that you have seen the extensive medical records for Maria Yommi (married Roman Catholic dressmaker) of 17 Duddeston Row, in the recently published records of All Saints (mental) Hospital on Ancestry. She was treated there 1912-1913 and then transferred to Rubery...

    Lichfield Road Aston

Richard, was the greengrocer's shop you mention called Sparrows? If you look at my post 301 in this thread, I identify each of the shops between the Station and Grosvenor Road in the mid 1960s. My grandfather owned the newsagent at number 268-270. The attached photo, which has been on this site...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Arthur Black (General Smiths) (posts 1678-1680) was located at 107 Steward Street. Arthur died in January 1957 but his business continued, advertising in 1958. The latest newspaper advert for the business I could find was in the Birmingham Daily Post in September 1975.

    Lichfield Road Aston

It has appeared on this thread before (Post 55 by Stars) together with a later view dated 1930. I believe the photos were taken from the junction of Lichfield Rd and Aston Hall Rd near the King Edward pub looking towards Salford Bridge.

    Erdington postmen heroes remembered

The attached newspaper article from December 1904 describes improvements to Erdington Post Office. It confirms its position near the village green and also confirms there was an old sorting room at the rear of the premises. The second cutting reveals that the postmaster was William John...

    Illegal Boxing Matches

The attached report from The Birmingham Daily Post published on 27 May 1884 (source: British Newspaper Archive) describes a prize fight between two women. "Black Hannah" is a distant relation on my family tree. The penultimate sentence of the report describes the spectators fleeing across the...

    High Street Erdington

In an advert for Bywater Pies in the Birmingham Daily Post of 21 August 1924, Burton and Harvey of The Green, Erdington is listed as a place where the pies can be obtained.
