Had another look, still can't find the 1901 census info but did find the info below, it looks like William Henry's parents were Thomas Smith and Jennie Smith (daughter of John Salmon and Jane Davis). Jennie appears to have died in 3Q 1891 and Thomas Smith remarried to Jane Davis in 1898. Being related to a large number of Birmingham/Aston Smith's I thought there might be a link, but doesn't look that way. Good luck with your search.

There is a Jane (daughter married 40 )and Florence M (grandaughter 2) Smith with a Mary A Davis (Widow) at 1 ct 31 Gooch Street in 1901..
 
Only William I can find in 1901 is as follows, not definitive but all the others seem to be attached to other families.
