Re: WHISTON 39 Warstone Lane Birmingham, Frederick, Martha,Ernest, Harry, Minnie, Eff

Regarding the address 39 Warstone lane. Although I unfortunately do not live in Brum and therefore cannot check, the building is apparently still standing (at least in 2002). It is in the Jewellery Quarter and as such is mentioned briefly in the English Heritage book "The Birmingham Jewellery Quarter" by John Cattell et al.A copy of the relevent bit is attached (short extract for your private research if the copyright owners are watching). It is apparently (surprise !) now a jewellers ( https://www.jewellerysomewhere.co.uk/spotlight.asp?ID=46). This site contains a rather rubbish present day photo, but better than nothing.

Re: WHISTON 39 Warstone Lane Birmingham, Frederick, Martha,Ernest, Harry, Minnie, Eff

Thank you guys !
my only query is that in the 1901 Census Effie, Minnie, Ruth, Clara, Martha are all @ 39 Warstone Lane with their parents, and their marital status is given as 'single' ????

Mike, I have a photo of 39 W. Lane taken about 10 years ago by my cousins, the shop keeper let them go through the upstairs living area, where presumably my ancestors lived..

Mrs T, oddly my gt grandfather F.W Whiston had a still born babe named Evanlgeline ???? So, Effie's marriage could be correct, but, I don't think Clara's because of 1901 census conflict ????

once again , many thanks, the search goes on......

Re: WHISTON 39 Warstone Lane Birmingham, Frederick, Martha,Ernest, Harry, Minnie, Eff

You guys have been wonderful !
Now, can I extend to further query ??????

Would anyone know how to find out how my gt gt grandfather Frederick William Whiston b.1855 got to australia ????

on one of his crn birth cert, it says he was a Mariner ??
he was certainly literate, writing for local newspapers in Oz.
His family were druggist and gold refiners.

I did find him on a ship, working passage from Port Adelaide to Sydney Australia in 1876.

and I have him on the 1871 Census @ Warstone Lane Birmingham.

very frustrating, Judy :explode:
