Now I need to know what uniform he is wearing !

I think it is the auxillary's sometimes known as the black and tans.
They served in Ireland in the early 1920s.
His medals would denote he also served in the first world war.

this falls into place with what we know of him, he also served with the RWF. I have his records from them, purchased diecrt. No mention of Black & Tans or Ireland so this is news to me.
Just found a true rellie last week and this picture was given to me.

Have you seen this site?.
A batt.of the R.W.F.was posted to Ireland in 1917 and finished up in Limerick.
