World War 11 Story

1939 Strutting Hitler decided to wage war
Along side Mussolini with his jutting jaw.‚..
His ambition to create the perfect race
This did not happen as unfolds the case
Italians Russians Japs - Germanys allies
Finally added to Hitler’s demise
Ruthlessly his armies advanced for gain
Didn’t think our island a great domain
He soon found out what for and whose who
Commonwealth countries - U S wasn’t few
Prisoners were murdered starved in the millions
All over Europe the bombing of civilians
Mad leaders groveling to the east with more
Threatened destruction death to our door
The Japanese camps were far worse than bad
Inflicting humiliation disease - so sad.
Chaos in China, Japanese plunder - rape
Shootings beheadings - no village escape
British RAF sentinels of the sky
With determined resolve dare death defy
The British soldier is not like any other
Fought next to his comrade like his brother
Battling in Europe the desert the East
Fighting to their death till the battle ceased
Merchant seamen and the Royal Navy
Storms at sea risked their lives to keep us free.‚.. .‚..
Great battles - Cape Matapan and River Plate
This culmination - helped seal Germany’s fate.
The Russians no longer on Hitler could rely -
So they turned their backs to become our ally
The Italians couldn’t fight fire with fire
Lay down their arms from war retire.
Another fierce battle was one at Arnhem
Never there was a coward among them
Paras being shot on parachute descent
Drowning in swamps some of them went
Brave paratroopers of the silver wings
It is your history of which it sings
D Day - 6th June - The battle of Dunkirk
Casualties unimaginable - plans didnt work.
Massacres of Canadians - Americans and British
Many brave men - grudgingly gave death kisses
From English shores men in schooners - row boats
Sailed across the Channel in anything that floats
A perilous journey - for brave men to save -
Some perished sank into a watery grave.
After six years of misery the bombing was done
The 8th May - Victory - war in Europe won.
Victorious people rejoice and to cheer
Singing and dancing with loved ones dear
Something thats thought - but seldom is said
Thank you to all who served and the dead .
Has a lesson been taught it should be a must
When remembering all those who died for us

Appendix

Fighting death destruction seems our fate
One big bomb, God moves the gear shift too late
Sends everything flying back in reverse
Finally putting an end to our universe
When the worlds gone mad wherever we fight
The sun is buried in the black pitch night
When religion becomes a thing of the past.
Will there be silence forever at last?

A brilliant piece of writing! Observant, reflective and thought provoking! This poem would sit very well on Forces Poetry (who I am involved with). They have a competition running at the moment, for a chance to have the work published in their next anthology. Even without the competition, I know all on site would love to read this poem.
