Reservoir Road, Erdington - Fuel Spillage 1950's / 1960's ?

Hello, bit of a long shot here. My father told me of a time when my my mum stopped the traffic in both directions on Reservoir Road, Erdington following a fuel spillage. She managed to stop the traffic approaching from both ways until emergency services arrived, as a discarded cigarette end or spark from an engine would have had unimaginable consequences. Unfortunately, I didn't get chance to ask any more about the incident, but would be fascinated to know more. I'm really guessing 1950's or 1960's. She never told me about her endeavours, but that was totally my mum, taking things in her stride.
Any info would be much appreciated,
thank you,
Andrea.
