Perks of the job, fringe benefits

One of my early jobs was working for Britannic Assurance Head Office in Moor Green as an Assurance Clerk . I used to travel every day from Kingstanding to Moor Green, Moseley to do the job. The only reason I could afford to do it and to be able to cope with the journey was because Britannic provided a free coach service to work. I was thinking about this today and thought how useful knowing this route has been, especially when talking about neighbourhoods. That journey passed through so many Birmingham suburbs, they became very familiar places, without even stepping foot off the coach.

There was another perk at Britannic: a subsidised lunchtime meal, a freshly cooked two course meal. It was cheap and convenient.

Those were the days. Viv.
