  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

the Classic capri D nice one I pass one that sits parked on Umberslade rd stirchley fairly regular it never seems to move which is a shame either that or I just pass when it is home ?:rolleyes::D
 
Sorry if I am duplicating my request - have posted these photos under misc. snaps asking for information regarding dating the photographs. Then I found this thread and thought it fitted my query. Thought it may be possible to give an approx date from the car. If anyone could give me any information regarding the car, which would help me date the photographs it would be much appreciated.

My friend had a Classic Capri (definitely 2-door) and I drove it back from Brighton one night when my pal was ill. After about an hour it lost first gear and was well on the way to losing second by the time we got home. Nice car, though, but not a patch on the later Capri, which IMHO was a fabulous motor.

Only contact I had with one was when my then MiL opened the door of my ancient Morris Minor into the door of a brand spanking new white one. The guy was livid as he has just paid "Over a £1000-00 for this car". I could see his point. My Fil - quick as a flash gave him name and address so that the could send the bill (it only needed a touch of car polish). I never knew how quick witted my FiL was at making up a believable name and address.

it wasnt just your opinion Big Gee :) Have driven a few capris and smashed a few :( always good fun to drive especially in younger days :D

Jules - I am sure that had anyone been able to hazard a guess at a date then they would have done so. I did not reply as I have nothing of value to suggest. Cars at that time would have been kept going for many years as there were no MOT's and people made them last as long as they could.

It might be able to help if you were able to supply larger copies of the photos as I found it hard to even distinguish what make the car was. The only chance [for a year] might be by the clothes of the people shown.

Give the folks a good crack at it and if they can then they will deliver the goods.
 
I did make photos larger on original post to try and help as the originals were a bit small :)and as Bernie said the cars were kept longer then:)
 
My son had a 2 litre - it wasn't until he was selling it and he gave me the full spec that I discovered it had what was virtually a race condition engine in it.

Sadly soon after he sold it some toe rag stole it off the guy who had bought it. Oh and the security guy at the works car park admitted that a couple of blokes had been taking a keen interest i it for a few days.
 
Sadly this is where a lot of capris ended there days:(but by golly was it great at the time:)

Great site nice to see them so lovingly restored,
the one i posted was on the testers run to Tanworth in Arden a couple of weeks ago still look the part, happy days found this in looking at a site,
now there,s not a lot of these left for sure. regards Derek

Looks like Hednesford hills raceway to me what times we had,
meadway spares was the place for your stuff then,
anyone know if it still there ?

Yes derek it is Hednesford Raceway and Meadway is still open at least it was last year before I finished work (Martin Morriss who was co owner at the time was still coming to our yard for insurance companys to recover stolen accident damaged cars:)
 
Ah Meadway spares. And does anyone remember the guy who ran the yard near the QE?
 
Bernie reservoir motors also known as monks was run by two brothers if that is where you mean ?on harborne park road ?:)
 
That's the one - I can't recall what I went for now but usually came away with what I wanted. Not sure that makes sense.
 
Derek great pics of Classic Fords ..the estate is a gem and there were quite a few made ..in all the years I worked in the scrap car yards only ever had three (I can remember?) come into the yards and they were all sold on:)
 
In my opinion the best car I ever owned, my 1960 Ford Consul 375 Low Line.
Ideal courting car, it had a front bench seat wide enough to seat three, column gear change and umbrella hand brake set under the dash panel. Happy days!
 
My uncles pub The Lodge Tavern Smethwick what car are they admiring as I don't know any ideas

the second pic is obviously the Anglia the first pic looks like an A40 chop top with probably Mg running gear ? maybe ? but bl..dy Quick lol;) they probably fueled it on alcohol at the pub Derek:D

Meadway Spares is still owned by Martin Morris and family members. Hednesford Raceway was started by Martins father Bill, passed to Martin and Philip Bond, now owned by and part of the Spedeworth racing organisation. People may remember Martin as the first Hednesford Raceway driver number 00.

:):)i have many a happy memory of Hednesford Raceway,i used to know Martin through another driver Tom laffey drove a checkered top mini then escort went with him to broad speed in livery st, he put a crossflow engine in the escort,out of a 1600e, and it had a cooling prob,s.
remember Bill Morris he drove the tractor used to pick the bangers up and get them off the track after the race if the could,nt be drove..

DerekTom Laffey was one of the best Hot rod drivers around at the time and Maggie was a fan lol he went on to run a successful race tuning business :)
 
hi Tom used to spend a lot of time with Tom, he lived in Ermington crescent opp the hunters moon castle brom, he had a mark one cortina to die for that he used to let me drive flared arches lowered anti tramp barrs,nice wheels it went like.... off a shovel,
I,ve some pics somewhere have to post them to you. Tom and his good lady were nice people not stuck up.
Last i heard he as you say had a thriving business,over hednesford way,clever bloke, he worked when i knew him for atco lawn mowers,we must have moved in the same circles Tom? regards Derek
