Old age, I love it

Old age, I love it.

It has been said that youth is wasted on the young,
(No doubt said by someone my age)
However, I cannot see this as being true.
I was blessed with friends, who enjoyed the youthful spirit,
Which only belongs to the young?
(We who are old can only dream dreams)
And it is in the dreams of old age that we
Again become that which we cannot bring back
Only in pictures.
(And then we arrive late and miss the Trailers)

In my dreams, I can swing on gas lampposts.
Scale the river Chin, fall in and out of love,
Dance the quickstep,
And whirl and twirl my partner till dizziness
Puts paid to our silliness.
(We danced till TEN O’CLOCK and walked home)
Shirley Barracks, and Kateswell Barracks.
The Community Hall at the bottom of
Chinnbrook Road, Tony’s Ballroom in the
City and Edgbaston Ballroom. Kings Heath
Baths. Oh, the list goes on and on and on

Patent leather dance shoes, light as a feather,
Floated us across the dance floor to the sound
Of Ivy Benson And Her All Girl Dance Band.
Joe Loss and Stan Kenton. The wind up gramophone,
Or Missus Green on the old joanna. (Piano)

Oh, I remember so well my youth.
But you know, I love my old age,
And wouldn’t swap it for quid’s.

Now THAT is what it's all about..I am a huge fan of yours, please keep writing.
