Not all were heroes!

An interesting story revealed itself when I was researching my family's name during WWI. My grandfather, who died before I was born, was a bit of a 'B' to my father and his siblings and I always thought he was a big tough-guy sort of bloke. Now I think he was just a bully.

I found he joined the King's Royal Rifles Corp and was sent to their HQ at Winchester to be in one of the many new battalions being formed and sent to France.

Only 33 days after signing-up in Birmingham he was discharged and for the (in my opinion) softest of all reasons. On the official document it says: Discharged 2/10/1914, 'In consequence of his not being likely to become an efficient soldier'.

Whatever happened to the old army adage We'll make a soldier out of you?
