New Bond Street father-in-law's shoe repairers 1960s

Sue Carter/Powis

proper brummie kid
My father-in-law Lew Powis (# 'L for Leather') had this business on the corner of New Bond Street post WW2 which has now been swallowed up by a traffic island and a Dunelm store. But the cobbles are still visible if you walk a little way up off the main road. He also had a small outlet at Bordesley train station selling shoe laces, polish and sundry items.

That would actually be Dunelm but I couldn't find a way to edit it! A shoe repairer, a hairdresser, a spot/arc welder and supplierof equipment as well as a butcher trading cheek-by-jowl.
hi sue just press the edit icon bottom left of the post you made

Lew gave up shoe repairing in the very early 60s. There was a Mitchells and Butlers pub 'The Dolphin' at the corner of New Bond Street and the Cov Rd. Other side of the road maybe?

It was no 60. The dolphin was on the same side of Coventry road, on the other corner of New Bond St. Powis is not there in the 1950 Kellys (it is Smith, boot repairers), but is there in 1955 edition till the 1965 edition, but not in 1966 edition
