Mom, can we go to the shops?

There are books and there is bread,
One to be eaten and one to be read.
There are spuds and there are bra’s,
A cupper tea at café Ma’s,
Videos and tinned beans,
A variety of wonderful scenes,
And you only have to visit the shops.

Forgettable music is playing,
And two old ladies saying
That unmarried Betty is pregnant
And has gone to stay at Mount Pleasant.
Blue rinsed ladies,
Young mums with babies.
All can be seen when you visit the shops.

An Op. shop sells high priced seconds,
And an off licence wine bar beckons.
A passport photo booth flashes,
A girl wearing nowt but green sashes
Advertising some beauty aid
Makes her way to the expensive arcade.
Poems in the making when you visit the shops.

You meet all races of kind folk
From the down and out scruffy bloke,
To the rich young foreigner
Out to mix with the commoner.
What is there more than to find delight,
From early morn to late at night
Than a visit to the wonderful shops.

You all know what I mean
For you have all been
That child with joy on your
Face as your mother say’s Yes,
Let’s go to the shops.
.

Unless of course it's for the weekly shopping..well done again Robert, I liked it very much.
