Hi Ron
There is a Charles Robins and 2 other siblings baptised in St Martins Church Birmingham all on the same day.

Parents: Thomas & Ann Robins
Baptisms St Martins Church Birmingham https://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp
Charles Robins born 27 May 1796 baptised 5 March 1800
John Robins Born 11 Sept 1792 Baptised 5 March 1800
Thomas Robins Born 11 Aug 1788 Baptised 5 March 1800

There is a marriage of a Thomas Robins and Hannah Charles 20 Oct 1788 in St Martins Birmingham and another possible marriage of Thomas Robins to Ann Baker 10 July 1788 Boningale Shropshire.

The convict records and his death certificate usually give more information about his family and origins so may mention a place or family names. Have you also looked at newspapers as these sometimes give graphic accounts of court proceedings and sentences.

My own ancestors were tansported to Warwick in QLD 1840 and I had a lot of help from Australian repositories and forums but the newspapers gave me the most information about his crime.

Thanks Louisa for the reply to my quest I did check the IGI but as you will agree i think i need something a little more concrete.

He died in 1856 so i do'nt think there would be much on his death cert.as the only one with any info if any at all would be his wife.

As his children would have been too young. Is there any english papers on line that might cover that time frame that you know of.

As I could not see anything in the papers here. Thank you for your response.

Cheers Ron in Qld.

Hi Ron
Sorry Moderators: This post may need to be moved into Genealogical Enquires but I dont know how to do it.

Although his ticket of leave states that Charles Robins is a Brassfounder born in Birmingham 1797 and was tried at the Salop Quarter sessions in other records the trial is recorded as the Assizes and as I have found out from my own convict ancestors sometimes incorrect details can lead you on a wild goose chase.

The Shropshire trial records are available in Australia and these may tell you more https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/research_guides/convicts/information/assize.html

Also try https://www.jenwilletts.com/searchaction.php?page=2&surname=robins&ship=&firstname=charles

An e-mail request with name and trial dates to Shropshire Archives may be able to give you the names of the local newspapers for 1818
https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/archives.nsf/open/9125832444E8E79A802578D400473213

Try Convict indents as they not only give a physical description of the person they usually record parents names and place of birth as well.
