I assume you're talking about Internet Explorer. If that's the case try this: Right click the Menu bar, select "Customise command bar" then "Add Remove Commands" (see attached) and see if you can re-install the icons from what's shown in the panel.
If that doesn't do it or I'm barking up the wrong tree come back and we'll have a go at something else.
hi peter thank you very much i am not very good at this but i will get it one day never looked at the ctrl or the alt i am doing my family tree and that's not going to good regareds linda

If you've lost visibility of your menus you might be able to 'switch them on' by using Alt V ( hold the Alt key and press V ).
This will bring up a menu where you can switch options on and off. Hope this helps.
