How to find if Thomas Robinson was in a Warwickshire regt?

My grandad Thomas Arthurs Robinson born 1898 came from Birmingham to Ireland and married my gran in 1919.
Rumour has it he was in British army and went to Ireland during the troubles.

Cannot find him on any army search.

Any ideas anyone.

I can't find my Grandfather either, some records were burned unfortunately, maybe your Grandfather's were destroyed too?
