First Edition Os Maps

The original sketches drawn for the first edition of the OS maps have been available on the british library website for some time. However it has taken the aussies and Kiwis to make available online the revised First Editions c 1830 at https://www.charlesclosesociety.org/files/Oldseries/OldseriesIndex.htm These are not as detailed as the later 1:500 scale town plans, or even the 1:2500 (as published by alan Godfrey), and it takes a bit of fiddling to find the map you want, but they still contain much information. The transfer online is not yet complete, but does show Birmingham and may be downloaded (FREE - the Aussies are far more generous and helpful to researchers than the UK government),though this is as a png file which is not readable on the forum and other places and is best converted to jpg (this may be done using the freely avaialble Infanview.) A Birmingham view is shown below
