Elizabeth Rose, sweet shop keeper

Shortie

master brummie
Can someone tell me if the sweet shop at No 18, Coleshill Street is listed as such - I was wondering if it was a case of sweets sold from a house, or a proper retail establishment. Husband George Rose was a painter and glazier.

Thanks

Shortie

The 1888 directory says for coleshill St

18 Rose George shopkeeper

he is still listed there in 1890 but not in 1892

Oh, I am so sorry. At the time of the 1881 census she was a sweet shop keeper, but she died in 1884. I had suspected it was a house that sold sweets rather than a shop. Perhaps it was only for a short time then, thank you for looking.

Thank you very much. George must have done two jobs then, selling sweets when no painting or glazing to be done. In 1891 he is living with his daughter in Suffolk Street, but died in 1893.

Thanks again.
