Hi Sylvia - Yes its almost impossible to trace Irish ancestors. I did visit Donegal a couple of years ago and by contacting a very friendly vicar (Church of Ireland) was able to look at the original parish registers where I only managed to get back to just before 1830 (he had no records before that). He just left us in his sitting room with all these priceless documents while he went out and cut the grass! This was for Irish g.grandparents on my fathers side.
For my B'ham RC Irish I was able to look at the film for St Chads at my local LDS Centre where I was lucky to find births of the children, but was unable to trace the family back to Ireland as I only had 'Roscommon' to go on. Its a virtually impossible task to trace back in Ireland.
