  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

Comics

My favourite Comics where the Topper, Beano, Dandy, Bunty and Mandy. Loved the Bunty, because of the cut out doll each week on the back. I used to draw around the little doll and design and colour new outfits for her. I once won a camera in a competition in the Diana comic. First time I used it was to photograph Gypsy Moth in Plymouth 1967.

I was there that night as well and went on the boat trip next day around the boat.

As promised - here are a few TV21 covers. The Gerry Anderson shows did have Birmingham connections of course - the shows were commissioned by ATV, and the sound was recorded and mixed in Edgbaston.

Oldest one I've got is #17 - featuring Fireball XL5 - note the teaser for Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds still a year away:-

Next we go to a (rather battered) Stingray Holiday Special (found for 50p in a front garden sale in Falmouth):-

I bought this one on eBay last year as it had a special article on floating schools, a similar month long trip I was fortunate to go on in 1969. My sister had all the Enid Blyton books and I used to read them all in my little bedroom in Antrobus Road. Most of the books were from 'Dragon' publishers and also read most of the 'Mystery' series as well as Secret Seven. I even dipped into the St Clares and Malory Towers books she had and even enjoyed those. In todays climate all those books would now be heavily edited as so many of this generation get offended...

Same with my sister (older), and I read them!
 
Has anyone seen the comic "Pheonix" ? If so, is there a "Metal Steve" in it?
The reason I ask is because a young lad who comes to our Church, has asked my wife to knit him one. He gave her a sheet with a brief drawing on it, mixed up with other characters, which does not indicate any real details. We will look when we go shopping but thought someone looking after grandchildren may have some info. in advance.
 
Following on from my previous post #98 in this thread, I have found my copy of the TV Century 21 Special produced for the first Thunderbirds feature film from 1966. You don't get this much joy for three and six these days!!!
