Not something I’ve heard of before. Dated 1917. Maybe it was for documentary filming ? Viv.

looking on Wikipedia there are lots of links showing the cast and director etc. Brum films are listed under production and distributers

Truth and Justice is a 1916 British silent drama film in 6 episodes and directed by Bert Haldane.

Another of their productions was 'a Birmingham girls last hope' 1917

On IMDb site Brum Films are listed as the distributors and the production by Birmingham
Film Producing company, although they could be the same enterprise.

Justice....Bottomley got seven years for fraud in 1922.

I wonder if any of their films were ever made available for amateur use on 9.5mm film. the Pathé Baby amateur film system for home use were available as early as 1922, these were fairly cheap hand cranked projectors, later ones had an electric motor along with a transformer to lower the voltage down to less than 6v

I have several old 1930 era 9.5mm projectors and piles of old film from another interest of mine dating back to the 1960's

Here is a link to a website showing adverts by BIRMINGHAM COMMERCIAL FILMS
They also did processing, titling etc under the name of Birco films, some of you will probably remember their premises on Lozells road and Paradise street.

There is a link on there showing them loading a van ready to go to Cyprus to film the troops but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work

The Clumsy Copper silent movie. Shows suburban street scenes, don’t know if it’s Brum though.

I’ve taken some screenshots of The Clumsy Copper. It could well be Birmingham street scenes. The lamp posts look very familiar #2 and #3. There’s a park fence in #9. There’s a large house in #s 13 to 20. There a shop in #12. Maybe someone recognises something in these. I’ve given each a number to make it easy to refer to. Quality of images is poor, but hopefully something can be spotted to confirm Brum scenes.

Viv.
