Birmingham connections (1901-1940) jacob winter part 9 FINAL PART

LEVY BARNETT
JOSEPH ABRAHAMSON LETTER 1915

This was the Tailor that supplied Joseph Abrahamson with his shirts in 1915.
I have found the Levy family on the 1891 census living at 12 Moscow Street, Leeds.
Israel 39. Leah 32. Barnett 13. Nathan 9. Fanny aged 8 months.

This might be a reason why Joseph Abrahamson preferred buying shirts from Barnett: the Leeds connection

Levy Barnett addresses all in Birmingham

1912 82 Irving Street, Market Hall Ward
1915-21 106 Irving St
1921-40.34 Belgrave Road

PERCY VICTOR BROOKS
SECOND JACOB WINTER WEDDING SIGNATORY-1916

Percy was Jewish; his son’s bar mitzvah was announced in the JC on 17th.March 1933.

In the 1911 Census he was living with his father at 89 Gravelly Lane, Erdington, Birmingham.
He was a furniture salesman then.

In the 1918 and 1919 absent voters lists Percy Victor Brooks is listed as.M2/282041, Pte 648 MT Co ASC., and address is 75 Coleshill St

Brooks Percy addresses

1922-1927 30 Horsefair -Horsefair Furnishings
1927-1933 345 Coventry Road.(Brooks Furnishing Store)
1934-1943 50½ Moor St (Midland F u r n i t u r e Sales)
1925 181 Alexandra Road.
1927 134 Bristol road
1930 24 Pebble mill road.
1933-1935 137 Russell road,.Birmingham
1939. 51 Westfield Road
1945 70 Westfield Rd.
1950 72 Russell Road

BMD
In 1915 he married Annie Woolf.

Percy Victor Brooks was born in 1888 Birmingham, living in Long Acre with his parents Joseph a wine and spirits traveller and his mother Kate-a Wardrobe dealer, both born in Dudley.

I think Percy knew the Rainbow and the Cave families – both in the furniture business. Also it is interesting that Joseph Rae decides to give himself the fictitious middle name of Victor whilst in the army.

Jacob Winter would have known him through the Rainbow/Cave families.

JOSEPH ABRAHAMSON
BROTHER OF FANNY ABRAHAMSON -1925

There is one Joseph Abrahamson (probably not the one) on the electoral roll listed as at:
1925 35 Poplar avenue
1930 Flat 3 No 10 Islington Row
1939-50 No 19 Yewcroft avenue
1955 73 Fitzroy avenue

There is a Joseph Rae with Jacob & Freda Winter at 314 Edward Road in 1925. This is correct.

HEATON HOWARD
FANNY ABRAHAMSON EMPLOYER 1937-1940

It seems that as the hard times hit Fanny started doing other jobs such as working with the wife of Dr. Heaton Howard. Mom remembered Dr. Heaton Howard. At this time the boys were all out of the house and only the two girls were left. I found out about this job because of the Lily Dressler envelope sent to Fanny in 1937.

Kellys lists 1 Great Colmore Street in 1937 as.Heaton C. Howard M.B.,Ch.B., O.B.E. physcn. &
surgn.
