Birmingham connections (1901-1940) jacob winter part 3

HYMAN WOLOFOSKY (Emigrated to Canada)
FIRST JACOB WINTER WEDDING SIGNATORY-1906

It is possible that Hyman- a Tailor was living at 45 Bristol Street in 1906 when Jacob Winter had his first marriage. We know that he was there in 1907/1908 see addresses below.

Maiers Winter (the other signatory) could still have been living at 117 Bristol Street at that time.

Jacob Winter’s address was just down the end of the road and they must have known each other well. Jacob Winter lived at Latimer Street in 1906 when he got married, which you can see from the.Second World War reminisces.below, is very close to Bristol street .

Opposite from Latimer St most of the houses had been bombed down you could see over to Bristol Street. .Towards the bottom of Gt Colmore St was Dr Heaton’s surgery with the estates office on the corner of Bristol Street- from a local person at the time.

MAIERS WINTER
FIRST JACOB WINTER WEDDING SIGNATORY-1906 AND HALF BROTHER OF JACOB WINTER

I know that Myers Winter lived at 46 Inge Street in the 1891 Census. His wife Deborah was a Wolfe which makes for an interesting connection with Lewis Putsman. His son Charles Putsman, also a Tailor, married on 16th July, 1913 an Esther Wolfe from Leeds aged 19. Just the connection I had been looking for.

Jacob Wolfe, the father, was a Wholesale Tailor just like Michael Abrahamson and I feel this is the conduit for Fanny coming to Birmingham. In 1913 the Wolfe family lived at Raylitta Villa, 57 Leopold Street, Leeds.

However this connection cannot be proved at present. What was the connection between Deborah Wolfe born in 1855 and Jacob Wolfe (the Polish father of Esther) born in 1866? Brother and sister or cousin? Jacob Wolfe first appears in the 1901 census whilst Deborah (Dora) Winter nee Wolfe came to England between 1886 and 1890.

Maiers (Isaac) Winter was born in 1858. My Mom calls his children cousins. He arrived in the UK between the years 1886-1890. 4 children were born in Poland: Simon (1886), Yetta (1885), Enoch (1881) and Isaac (1878). Louis (1890), Rosie (1892), Esther (1894) and Fanny (1900) were all born in Birmingham.
I also suspect the reason Jacob Winter emigrated to Birmingham was his half brother: Maiers Winter.

Maier Winter died after 1920 but we still do not know the date.

Deborah Winter died in the March quarter of 1919 in Birmingham. She was a Wolfe and it is possible she is linked to the Putsman family through marriage.

Four of Maier Winter’s children emigrated to Chicago-Mom’s cousins. See Winter USA connections.
