Thanks for these Ian, the earliest photo is the first I have ever seen of Trinity Rd. Both taken from just below the church looking down towards Witton. Though a prosperous road in 1904, the photograph shows what looks to be an unsurfaced road.

Having looked at the photo again, the trees are bare so it was taken in the winter, the appearance of the road surface may have been slush from a recent snow fall. There looks to be a layer of snow on top of a lamp and everyone is wrapped up warmly.
