From time to time I see albums for sale on the net and am often surprised at how much people are asking for these. I'm not referring to the regular family albums which are obviously priceless to the family, but those of a local/historical/industrial/heritage type.

I suppose on the basis of rarity, they feel justified in asking considerable prices. This Kings Norton one is one of those. A very nice record of Kings Norton Metal factory in WW1 - the link below gives us an opportunity to look at those images before they disappear.

So if you have albums lying around of this nature, they could be worth a few bob. (But please share with us before you flog em !). Viv

Seems it became part of ICI and then Imperial metals. Presumably it was the site in WW2 of the research effort for the atom bomb, some of which I understand was done in Kings norton , Information later of course given to the Americans

I was told this some time ago, but could not give you a written reference. I understand that the section of ICI was called special metals , or something like that

“Tube Alloys Project”, I think, Mike.

Interested to hear of the Kings Norton link to that research. I note from my own online potted history of Kynoch that the Kings Norton factory seemed to go into liquidation in the 1920s but can’t investigate further as I am away from home.

Thanks for the link, Viv. What a b***** silly price! No doubt it will soon disappear into some collector’s dusty archive, never to see the light of day again.

I notice underneath the album sale there is a photo on offer for £2000 or £94.33 per month over 24 months ...

The Kings Norton Metal Co minted one penny pieces for the years 1918 and 1919 and they are quite valuable depending on condition, they range from around £5 each to over £1,500 for an un-circulated. They are identified by a small "KN" to the left of the date stamp. Some 1912 pennies were made in Kings Norton by Heatons and have an upper case H by the date stamp and also are quite valuable, J.
