A KISS FOR JACK

(Two stories, one poem)

Released from once conserved energy.
Now of itself given potential, to journey
the green mile of prairie baize, or laundered
grass.

Circled with probationary bands, paroled to
move with eagerness to reach that which is its goal.
Gravity and friction now its sentence of confined
immobility. The potential specified to reach
the purpose of its yearning, must be used to its full.

Like unwatered man, it slowly crawls towards
the distant mirage, to drink the kiss of success.
The echo of murmuring increase, urging
it onward, until the distance is covered.
All potential gone, it leans, and the final kiss is given.
