A Christmas Carol at The Rep

Exiled Brummie
My wife, her sister and I went to Mondays matinee. What a great performance. It's a musical (or at least it has a lot of singing amongst the dialogue!). The cast were all fantastic, Marley's ghost in particular had a singing voice which would have blown anything the TV talent shows throw at us out of the water. The sets were brilliant.

I realised that there would probably be a few school parties due to the timing of the performance - 2:30 - but was amazed at the amount of them. We were in Row 3 and when we heard the patter of tiny - but not quiet - feet coming, I told my wife that the theatre had probably kept the first few rows for adults only. Well, I think there must have been around 80 - 90% children! So much for my theory as 20 or so 7 - 10 year olds came walking along the rest of our row. Immediately behind was the rest of their school (from Stourport on Severn I think) - and apart from a few cat-calls when the lights went down I can honestly say that we weren't aware of the children throughout the performance. They were fantastically well behaved. At the interval, one even turned to me and asked me if I was enjoying it!

The interpretation was a little dark (not the lighting) in places which I thought may cause the kids some problems but it seems not, although I'm not sure if any had nightmares afterwards.

All in all a really enjoyable afternoon which we finished off by taking a stroll through the Market and then having a meal before driving back to Banbury.

Well done the Rep! :encouragement:
