What an interesting thread maybe we should start one on street names after reading recent posts I am amazed at where the names come from. Not what I first thought.
Dennis although I recognise the one end with St Chads in view is the other end the cross roads with Loveday St to the left? Dek
I agree totally Wendy. As you know, I have been worried that the original concept of featuring back alleys and passageways has long been exhausted (I think, but hope not of course), and I have been merrily plonking stuff on here for some time now that would probably, if I'm honest, be better described as Backstreets. I still find these fascinating to remember; look at; and occasionally learn from the names, stuff I never would have thought about or guessed if I hadn't read Carl's Books or Victor Price and Jo McKenna's volumes on Street names.
I think we maybe have several alternatives., viz.
1 Keep this Thread going but add Backstreets to the title (if this is technically and 'legally' possible).
2. Start a new Thread called Backstreets or something like that, and transfer Posts and pics that you and the mods think may be more appropriate for such a thread.
3. Do nothing and carry on regardless.
3. Ask the audience or phone a friend what they think is best?
I will go with the verdict of the mods and the people, and any comments would be welcome. I still have tons more to post....
Surely dennis, the bishops house was on th ecorner of Weaman st & Bath st, and i think that is it in the photo (not that i think I ever saw it), as below

Dennis. Whatever happens this is a GREAT thread.
If I remember right we had some of the "Gosta"thread removed because it had become to big I stand corrected if I am wrong. I sometimes find it hard to think of the thread titles when using the search box with so many titles it becomes difficult to recall the item you want. Dek
Thanks for the support lads and lasses. The Show goes on then...
Another nice shot of Lower Priory from a helicopter...scenes of my misspent youth. Ah - the Casino - just off to the left, like me too...

E.H.James was next to Henn's Walk.
Dennis that building I think is Newton Oils on the corner of Long Acre and Thimble Mill Lane. Dek

Hitler - 1918 ?? Just normal rebuilding I think. I agree the walk seems wider. Maps below for c 1905 and c 1927 seem to show this
